g.h. is gary howell, longtime associate of modern love as one half of pendle coven and sometime contributor to the hate project. the ground ep features howells first material produced outside of pendle coven and takes on a much darker, more stripped down aesthetic - making use of location recordings amassed over the last decade. the title track extends over 7 minutes from a solitary bass pulse into a slow, three dimensional industrial reduction heaving with uncomfortable bass weight and a sense of nervous expectation. its like the bare, skeletal noise framework for darkest junglist hardcore stripped of its percussion - all bar a bass drum and intense shards of noise. albedo has more of a swing to it, dominated by a growling bassline and the metallic clunk of disjointed percussion at odds with the squashed funk lurking somewhere at its core. the template is extended on earth, a brilliantly discordant club variant that sounds like an r&b mastertrack exploded into 100 constituent parts and put together not entirely in the right order. it builds and collapses into itself, a stylistic oddity that at one and the same time brings to mind boards of canadas re- working of colonel abrams - trapped and the extreme frequency vortex of the raster noton lab

synapsis records is back with a excursion into deep house with a new record from hakim murphy called moonbeam express ep. in this presentation there are three tracks that explore the deeper side of murphys subconscious in which he describes this vinyl sound as an express trip to the moon through cosmic textures, deep grooves, and subliminal funk. moonbeam express egins the journey of soft pads that beam you up to a nice bass sound, strings, and moving percussion. weep has deep pads that begin the piece as a melody, then strings, and bass soon follow to open up moods of deepness. flirt is an uptempo joint that begins with a smooth synth then proceeds into a piano riff that sneaks up on you and teases your eardrums. yeah taking it deep.

label co-owner de walta returns back to meander after his latest releases on vakant and cynosure - and his musicality here is stronger than ever. these three personal tracks, were carefully mastered and cut by stefan betke aka pole at scape mastering.

continuing a trend of strong releases in 2011, dynamic reflections ninth ep sees the light of day. firmly re-establishing the labels forward thinking nature and intelligent approach to techno, this release, the first of three, features two original tracks by abstract division and remixes by both milton bradley and dasha rush.

for his inaugural outing on under the shade, james johnston delivers a deep and heavy house workout with three original belters that all seem to evolve and grow from a slow sauntering groovers into mammoth club rumblers. slow in tempo but huge in delivery all teeter around the lower pace of the house spectrum but as james layers them up all become so crammed with content they bust out at the seems and drive home in splendid fashion. also included is a killer andy ash remix of >there is always time to change< that boosts the tempo and utilizes the underlying disco sample to devastating effect.

hotflush presents a special collaboration between two modern-day techno innovators: paul woolford and psycatron. both maintaining an influential discography on labels such as planet e, intimacy, tresor, and bedrock, they have come together to produce >stolen<, a nine-minute techno excursion. utilising relentless, throbbing percussion that sizzles over growling, acidic synthesis and carefully placed samples, its presented in three distinct versions, introducing filter-swept chords in the dub mix, and an even deeper submersion in the second dub mix that perfectly eclipses the raw temperament of the original.

after a handful of smashing remixes and compilation features on nang records, lusty zanzibar returns to the fold with a cracking solo effort named the >the feeling ep.< title track is a spaced out exercise in immersive square-wave programming, reminiscent of the pre-internet computer gaming age when colours were 8-bit and vivid, and soundtracks were hyper-colour opuses. the complex synth work is underpinned by a driving beat with ethereal vocal wisps and crystalline pads. nice. the first of three remixes for >the feeling< comes from ilya santana, with his >celestial version<, and celestial it is indeed! a picturesque scene is set, the rhythm is wound back and a super laid back vibe allows the vocal line >remember how you are feeling< to sit more purposefully in the mix, alongside the tip-toeing bass line and often euphoric chords. up next comes the max essa dub version, introducing some arp-synth subtleties, replacing the main vocal hook to great effect. to finish we have a mix from fear of theydon who brings a touch of arpeggiated femininity and tasteful woodblock percussion to the table. its a fulfilling yet sultry up-beat journey.

following the smash hit >summer beach edition compilation< and dinkys positively carnivalesque >time to lose< ep, visionquests latest collection showcases the label at its curatorial best. offering up three elegant tracks from across the broad spectrum of dance-oriented electronica. the inspiring juxtaposition of david k, my favorite robot and mirko loko together on the fall/winter collection works to create a remarkably unified whole, a versatile remarkable collection for the ensuing darkening months.

there are still around, real environmentalists for whom the term preservation means more than just a trend. paul-david rollmann alias even-tuell belongs with his artistic productions (among other things, one of the creators of the enthusiast label workshop) to the class of those who answer the call for effective art, design and indulgence. the maxim is always the free will, emancipated from szperfluous market mechanics and the falsehoods of the zeitgeist. for musik krause, his activity is recorded on 2 releases. a split with metaboman and a formidable remix for ian simmonds adorn the catalog. with his quasi-first complete musik krause ep he shows a raw and coarse club music sound without losing even a breath of the aesthetic and compelled movement. all three pieces sound as if they were crafted from centuries old tools, in the way that his music is filtered through the machines humanizedm discharged in a kind of essential honesty.

the mysterious rod enterns the balans arena with an uncompromising, abstract techno affair. little can we tell you about this mysterious character. only that a famous dj from rodterdam is behind this alter ego and that he did a very well received ep on ben klocks klockworks earlier this year.
the music coming from this persona is one hundred percent puristic, stripped down, dj tool techno. with a capital t you have seen that right! no nonsense hypnotism as we rarely see it nowadays. three or four sounds per track, each pushed and stretched inside out for maximum result. these tunes are made for dark, strobe lid cellars or underground techno temples such as berghain.
techno is back and this is about as abstract and underground as it gets. we look forward to release more rod records in the future.
